GWO Fire Awareness

The GWO Fire Awareness is intended for everyone who works in the wind industry. During this training you will learn everything about dealing with fire in a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG). When a fire breaks out, it is important to act quickly! Personal safety is therefore central in this training. You will learn how to handle portable fire extinguishers and how to escape from a smoke-filled room.

The content of this module has been drawn up according to the guidelines of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO).

Content

The following topics are discussed in accordance with the GWO guidelines:

  • The start and spread of fire
  • Escape from a nacelle when fire started
  • Practice with different fire extinguishers
  • Escape route procedures, contingency plans and smoke detection
  • Extinguish small fires

Fire Awareness is one of the five modules of the Basic Safety Training developed by the Global Wind Organization (GWO).

The complete package teaches participants everything to be able to work safely in the wind industry and consists of the separate modules in addition to GWO Fire Awareness:

The modules can also be followed in combination in the GWO Basic Safety Training.

Certificate

After successful completion of this training you will receive an official GWO Fire Awareness certificate. You will also be registered in WINDA. WINDA is the online database for GWO training courses.

This certificate as well as the WINDA registration has a validity of 2 years and must be repeated every two years. You can repeat this by following the GWO refresher training.

As soon as you start following a GWO training, you need to create a Winda account. Don’t have these yet? Don’t worry, you can do that via this link. In this database you will find all obtained GWO certificates.
