GWO Enhanced First Aid – Refresher

This two-day GWO Enhanced First Aid Refresher is the refresher training of the GWO Enhanced First Aid training and is intended for people who work in the wind sector, both offshore and onshore.

During the refresher training, the previously acquired skills are refreshed. You will learn, among other things, how to deal with a victim in a remote area. You will use more advanced first aid materials. In addition, you will learn to act life-saving through radio-medical contact during the period when you are waiting for professional help.

The content of this module has been prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the  Global Wind Organization (GWO) .

About this training

Contents

The following topics are discussed in accordance with the GWO guidelines:

  • Use of automatic external defibrillator (AED)
  • First aid in life-threatening situations
  • Symptoms of major and minor injuries and diseases (anatomy)
  • Anatomy
  • Managing a medical incident – Emergency assistance – contact with medical service
  • Pain relief and medication
  • Scenario-based training

Admission requirements

For this training you must be in possession of a valid GWO First Aid or GWO First Aid refresher certificate. Because you follow the GWO Enhanced First Aid training again every two years, you do not need to be in possession of a valid GWO Enhanced First Aid certificate for the refresher training. 

Additional options

From April 1, 2023, the GWO Enhanced First Aid standards will stand alone, in the sense that it is no longer possible to follow a 2-day Enhanced First Aid refresher training without first having followed the initial 3-day Enhanced First Aid training . This means that it is no longer possible to use GWO First Aid as a preliminary training for the Enhanced First Aid refresher training.

Certificate

After successfully completing this training you will receive an official GWO First Aid and GWO Enhanced First Aid certificate. You will also be registered in WINDA. WINDA is the online database for GWO training.

This certificate and the WINDA registration are valid for 2 years and must be repeated every two years. You can repeat this by following the 2-day GWO Enhanced First Aid refresher training.

As soon as you start following a GWO training, you must create a WINDA account. Don’t have this yet? Don’t worry, you can do that via this link . In this database you will find all obtained GWO certificates.

Who is the GWO Enhanced First Aid Refresher intended for?

The GWO Enhanced First Aid Refresher is intended for employees in the wind energy industry who have already obtained a GWO Enhanced First Aid certificate and who want to maintain their knowledge and skills in this area. This refresher training is aimed at updating the knowledge and skills of the participants in the field of first aid, so that they are able to act adequately in emergency situations at work. The training can be taken by anyone working in the wind energy industry, such as wind turbine technicians, maintenance engineers and other employees who regularly work at heights. The training is specifically aimed at increasing people’s chances of survival in the event of an accident on a wind turbine, and is therefore of great importance for anyone working in this industry.
