As well as the standard training courses, ECMT also offers GWO training in a blended format. With blended training, you complete the theory part online in advance, at your own pace and from anywhere in the world, using a PC, laptop, tablet or mobile phone. You then attend only the practical part at our centre in Rotterdam.
As you will have already completed the theory part, you’ll spend less time obtaining your certificate. This means that, after weeks at sea, you’ll have more time for family and friends. And you won’t have to compromise on quality, as you’ll receive exactly the same official GWO certificate as you would on our regular courses.
The GWO training is intended for people working in the wind industry. GWO stands for Global Wind Organisation. The aim of the GWO training courses is to teach people everything about the safety risks involved in working in the wind industry, to help them understand and mitigate these risks, thereby creating a safe working environment.
The GWO training courses were developed from training standards created by GWO members. They agreed on safety training requirements that reflected the risks their employees faced whilst at work. The standards applied by GWO apply to people working in both the onshore and offshore wind industries.
The ability to identify safety risks in good time when working in the wind industry is the main reason why the GWO training courses have been designed. The GWO courses are therefore intended for people working in the wind industry.
Which GWO training courses does ECMT offer?
ECMT offers the following GWO courses:
❖ Basic Safety Training Onshore
❖ Basic Safety Training Offshore
❖ Basic First Aid
❖ Basic Working at Height
❖ Basic Manual Handling
❖ Basic Fire Awareness
❖ Basic Sea Survival
❖ Advanced Rescue Training

The basic GWO training courses can be taken either as a combined programme or separately. We refer to the combined programme as the GWO Basic Training. This course consists of five different modules, namely: GWO First Aid, GWO Working at Heights, GWO Sea Survival, GWO Fire Awareness and GWO Manual Handling. During this course, all topics relating to the risks and hazards of working in the wind energy industry are covered. Through various practical scenarios, participants then put what they have learnt into practice. It is worth noting that these practical exercises will take place at ECMT’s indoor facility on Brielselaan in Rotterdam, right next to the theory classroom. You can find the Basic Safety Training (onshore) and/or Basic Safety Training (offshore), as well as ECMT’s individual modules, by clicking on the links above.
Upon successful completion of the GWO training courses, you will be registered in WINDA, which stands for Wind Industry Database and is managed by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO).
If you have previously completed a GWO Basic training course but have not carried out any work in the wind industry for two years, your certificate will have expired and you will need to complete a GWO Refresher course. Naturally, ECMT can also assist you with this. This GWO Refresher course will refresh your knowledge of the risks and hazards. You can find more information about the GWO Refresher course on our GWO Refresher page.
